Jesus, America, and God's Kingdom - Part 3

Hebrews 12:28-29 says, "28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.” We have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken, destroyed, or upended. We are subjects of the King of Kings; and we live and move in His domain and under His authority no matter what nation we live in. America can be shaken. Canada can be shaken. Japan can be shaken. Mexico can be shaken. England can be shaken. Cambodia can be shaken. Other nations can be shaken and crumble, but God’s kingdom cannot. If America or any other nation falls apart, the church will not. The church will grow by the power of God through the preaching of the gospel.

Do you think national turmoil will stop the church from growing and flourishing? Do you think the difficulties of 2020 will stop the purposes of Jesus Christ? No way. More people will be added to the Lord day by day because God is the one forming a people for Himself. We plant the seed of the gospel and water it, but God gives the growth. No one can shake His kingdom. Not even the gates of hell can prevail against the church. We are living in the victory of Jesus Christ. We always will. His kingdom cannot be shaken. If heaven and earth are shaken, if the heavens are rolled up like a scroll, if the mountains split and crumble, the kingdom of God will not. Things are shaky outside the kingdom right now, but not in the kingdom because Jesus is our Cornerstone and the Rock in which we take refuge. The Cornerstone cannot be crushed. Our Rock cannot be shaken. This is our confidence.

But we don’t just enjoy the glory of His Kingdom for ourselves while everyone else perishes. We work to help others enter this unshakable Kingdom. They enter through faith in Christ. So we preach Christ and His incarnation, death, resurrection, ascension, and His universal Lordship. We preach that everyone must repent and believe on God's Son. Faith comes through hearing and hearing through the Word of Christ. We give people a message of real and eternal hope. We give them a message of resurrection, forgiveness, new life, and truth. We warn them of the wrath that is coming upon those who refuse to repent and trust in Jesus. We tell them of the immeasurable spiritual blessings found in Jesus Christ. We demonstrate the love of Christ by loving one another. We show them what it looks like to live in the kingdom of God together, albeit imperfectly for now. We love them with acts of service and care. We invite them to join us under the easy yoke of Jesus Christ and become part of God's family. What an amazing confidence we can have because this kingdom will not be shaken. The mission of Jesus won’t fail. It will succeed. His Kingdom will prevail until the last day. It will fill the earth at His return. Believers from all nations will enjoy the wonder of worshiping the true God together in perfect shalom. We will rise to immortality. We will reign with Christ forever. We will behold God face to face. God be praised.
